William Stranger reception at Fifth Floor Gallery

Who knew the lanes of a bowling alley could look so good? Fifth Floor, an eclectic gallery in Los Angeles’ Chinatown that mixes art, furniture and jewelry, is holding a reception tonight to celebrate L.A.-based furniture designer William Stranger.
Stranger recycles what he calls ‘urban salvage’ -- trees that have blown over or the junked floor of the defunct Tava Lanes bowling alley in Riverside. His new work includes Fragment vases ($300 to $400 each, above left) made from reclaimed hardwoods, a mirror installation, wall hangings and furniture such as the Tava coffee table ($4,000, above right).
The reception is 6 to 9 p.m. Stranger’s works will remain on sale afterward at the store, 502 Chung King Court; (213) 687-8443.
