Who thought we’d ever see the day when a pop star looked toward Paula Abdul for cover material.
Now don’t get us wrong. We thought seeing the acoustic spin of “Straight Up” on this past season’s “American Idol” was a delicious treat and a nice homage to the judge who departed the show, but actually releasing a full-on cover of Abdul isn’t something we saw coming (or necessarily needed).
Enter Kat Graham, better known as Bonnie Bennett on the CW’s hit “Vampire Diaries.” The actress, hoping to make a splash in the pop world (she released her debut single in the summer and has previously toured as a backup singer with the Black Eyed Peas), released her “re-imagining” of the track Wednesday.
While the track has the same chorus as the original, Graham has put a new spin on the classic (hey, who didn’t love “Forever Your Girl”) with new lyrics (and we hear she wrote the arrangement herself).
Take a listen below and tell us what you think. Would Paula be proud?
