Crespi Coach Russell White didn’t sugar-coat his thoughts on how his team played Monday night against Mission League cohort Loyola.
‘We can’t be much worse than we we were the other night,’ said White, who must have said ‘we were bad’ at least three times in my phone conversation with him on Wednesday. ‘We’ve just got to play better. There’s no easy answer or special formula for beating a team like Harvard-Westlake.’
If you haven’t figured it out by now, Crespi will be playing at Harvard-Westlake tonight and looking to rebound from a frustrating loss to Loyola in what was a winnable game for the Celts. Poor shooting down the stretch coupled with a diversion from the game plan were the main culprits, according to White.
Still, let’s not get too down on the Celts. After all, with guys like Jerramy King and Joseph Fauria in the lineup, the Celts always have a chance to win. Plus, starting point guard Blake Stanton could be back in the lineup after sitting out against Loyola because of disciplinary reasons. White said he’s ‘a game-time decision.’
In addition, Crespi has typically played well following losses, but, like White said, ‘this is Harvard-Westlake, though.’
‘I like our chances [in league], but we’re still kind of finding our way,’ White said. ‘I hope we do everything better tonight. As long as we execute our game plan, we’ll do a lot better.’
