King-Drew could be a springboard game for Washington

Washington (14-2, 2-0) is the lone unbeaten boys’ basketball team in Marine League play. And if the Generals get past visiting King-Drew (9-8, 2-1) on Friday, they could stay unbeaten in league for a while -- or at least until they face Gardena on Jan. 23.
Washington Coach Andy Davis is not thinking that way, however.
‘I do know that King-Drew is a contender for the championship,’ he said. ‘Their coach [Khary Hervey] was at Banning last year, and he’s always had good defensive teams. I suspect they will try and control the tempo and not go up-and-down the floor as we like to play. It will be interesting to see if we have the right discipline to play that type of game.’
