And then there was one.
Cathedral City is the final undefeated boys’ basketball team in the Southland, although I wouldn’t be surprised if Eric Maddy (known to you as Stats Guru, known to me as Mr. Never Wrong) will message me about a team in Blythe or Lone Pine.
The Lions travel to Palm Springs tonight/Thursday, where they’ll try to wrap up a 26-0 season in a scheduled 6:30 tip off. That won’t be as easy as it reads.
Redlands just lost its chance for an unbeaten regular season Wednesday night in an 83-72 loss to visiting Redlands East Valley, Etiwanda experienced its first blemish last week against Rancho Cucamonga, and Murrieta Valley teased itself with a perfect record into January before getting stonewalled by Perris.
Of course, there’s always the naysayers who claim Cathedral City is undefeated because its schedule is as soft as a sand dune. I get their drift. In fact, that’s the only reason why the Lions haven’t budged from No. 25 in our poll.
