Fairfax led by 15 points in the third quarter, led by eight points with two minutes in the fourth quarter...and couldn’t close the deal in its Southern California Regional Division I semifinal at Dominguez High.
Dominguez somehow outlasted the Lions, 80-77, in double overtime Thursday to oust the defending state champions, and set up a meeting with RIverside King, a surprise overtime winner over Taft in the other semifinal, at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Sports Arena for the right to play for the state championship next weekend in Sacramento.
Dominguez improved to 31-2; Fairfax ends its season at 27-6.
