Baseball: Norco’s Hobgood is Gatorade national player of the year

Pitcher-first baseman Matt Hobgood of Norco has been selected the Gatorade national player of the year in baseball. He will receive the award during a ceremony at Norco scheduled for today.

The 6-foot-4, 250-pound Hobgood was 11-1 on the mound and hit 21 home runs this season. On Tuesday, he is expected to be a first-round draft choice.
