Boys’ basketball: Taft stays close to St. Patrick

It’s halftime, and St. Patrick holds a 39-33 lead over Woodland Hills Taft at Mater Dei.
Taft battled back to close to 30-28 with just over four minutes left thanks to some three-point shooting from Larry Drew Jr. But St. Patrick’s ability to score quickly kept the pressure on Taft.
Talented 6-8 junior Michael Gilchrist asserted himself in the second quarter for St. Patrick.
Mark Jackson, a transfer from Calabasas who has been held out most of the season while the City Section and school officials investigated his eligibility, played in the second quarter for Taft.
