Girls’ basketball: Mater Dei clinches the Division 2A title

There is a huge difference between Division 2A and Division 3AA.

It is called Mater Dei.

Just ask Woodbridge, the defending Division 3AA champion.

Top-seeded Mater Dei crushed third-seeded Woodbridge, 71-29, in the Southern Section Division 2A title game on Saturday at Cal State Long Beach.

Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis led Mater Dei (28-1) with 22 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Jordan Adams added 15 points, including two three-pointers, and eight rebounds. Jessica Duarte had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Sara McCutchan had nine points and seven rebounds for Woodbridge (27-6). Ashley Ward added eight points.

The Monarchs forced 20 turnovers and accrued only nine.
