Boys’ basketball: Bryce Jones is MVP

USC-bound Bryce Jones from Woodland Hills Taft scored 18 points and had 12 rebounds while earning MVP honors in helping the West defeat the East, 87-84, in the Battle of the Valley all-star basketball game at Cal State Northridge.
The East rallied from an early 20-4 deficit. The West needed a three-pointer from Granada Hills’ Trevor Medina with 35 seconds left to take an 85-84 lead. Jones added a layup with two seconds left.
Jason Johnson from Reseda Cleveland added 15 points. Jamal McClerkin from Chaminade led the East with 19 points.
