Baseball: Westchester scores three runs in first inning

Top-seeded Westchester has come out swinging in the first inning of its City Section Division II baseball championship game against Western League rival Venice at Dodger Stadium.
Andrew Carter had a two-run single and Josh Gilder had an RBI single to give the Comets a 3-0 lead after the first inning. The Comets collected four hits in the inning.
With two outs against sophomore pitcher Aaron Soto, Robert Gsellman was hit by a pitch. Kenny Peoples-Walls singled and Gilder followed with a single to center. Carter then singled to center to score two runners.
Westchester junior left-hander Jamaal Moore gave up a one-out double to Junior Campos in the first inning but didn’t allow any runs.
