Irvine : Child-Care Proposal for Irvine on Agenda for City Council

A plan to build a temporary child-care center for preschoolers at Heritage Park will be considered by the City Council on Tuesday.

To help meet residents’ child-care needs, city officials have proposed a center for as many as 48 children.

A 2 1/2-acre site in Heritage Park is being considered, along with a plan for two temporary buildings, one for the child-care staff and the other for program staff. Also, a fenced-in play area and playground equipment are proposed.

Although the city would buy the buildings, an outside group would operate the program. The city estimates that the shortage of licensed day-care centers in Irvine will continue to worsen, and, by 1988, that there will be about 1,200 preschoolers in need of child-care facilities.
