Seeking to reap financial benefits from the newly approved California state lottery, the city has taken some initial steps toward becoming a lottery ticket agent.
The City Council voted 4 to 0 Tuesday to pursue ticket sales if it is permitted by state legislation. Not all the bills that have been introduced in the Legislature would allow cities to become ticket agents.

The council also directed the Planning Commission to establish a business license for ticket agents and determine where in the city ticket sales will be allowed.
