Sen. Bob Packwood (R-Ore.) is being targeted for defeat in 1986 by an anti-abortion political action committee that has nicknamed him “Senator Death.” Rick Woodrow, executive director of the Life Amendment Political Action Committee Inc., said that Packwood will be the group’s only target in the midterm elections and that all its resources will be spent in an effort to deny him a fourth Senate term. Packwood, the new chairman of the powerful Senate Finance Committee, has long been one of the Senate’s most outspoken advocates of a woman’s right to choose abortion.
