San Diego Prep Basketball : Point Loma Wins Record 45th Straight

SAN DIEGO — The Point Loma High School girls’ basketball team set a San Diego Section record with its 45th straight win Wednesday as it defeated Patrick Henry, 62-33.
Sophomore Terri Mann had 32 points and 26 rebounds for Point Loma (4-0, 16-0). Junior Jessica Benton had 12 points and 9 rebounds for the defending State CIF Division II champions. Mann is the only returning starter from last year’s team. Patrick Henry fell to 3-1, 9-3.
In boys’ basketball games:
AVOCADO LEAGUE
San Pasqual 69, Carlsbad 46
Carlsbad led, 31-30, at the half, but was outscored, 39-15, in the second half. Rich Prusinski led San Pasqual (3-3, 11-8) with 25 points, Tom Noonan had 14 and Scott Guiles added 10.
CITY CENTRAL LEAGUE
Christian 65, San Diego 55
The Patriots (1-3, 10-6) outscored the Cavers (1-3, 4-11), 18-9, in the third quarter en route to their first league victory in a game at San Diego High.
Crawford 64, Saint Augustine 50
The Colts led, 45-44, after three quarters, but broke the game open by outscoring the Saints at Crawford High, 19-6, in the final quarter. Clif Sullivan led Crawford (2-2, 6-9) with 27 points and Mark Hayes added 14. Joe Shandley led Saint Augustine (2-2, 7-9) with 14 points.
Hoover 99, Lincoln 66
Sam Aguirre scored 31 points despite playing only three quarters to lead the Cardinals to the win at Lincoln High. Ken Matthews added 19 points for No. 6 Hoover (4-0, 16-2) and Keith Williams added 15 and sophomore Tyrone Bell had 14.
CITY EASTERN LEAGUE
Serra 76, Madison 64
The Conquistadors outscored Madison, 24-12, in the final quarter to break open a tie game at Serra High. Deven Moran led Serra (1-3, 10-6) with 31 points and Steve Smith added 24.
Morse 87, Mira Mesa 48
The No. 5 Tigers improved its record to (3-1, 9-4) with the win at home. Mira Mesa dropped to 0-4, 6-10.
Patrick Henry 91, Point Loma 65
Patrick Henry (4-0, 17-0) surged to a 46-22 halftime lead on its way to an easy win over Point Loma (2-2, 13-4).
CITY WESTERN LEAGUE
Kearny 52, La Jolla 44
The Vikings led, 28-21, at halftime, but Kearny rallied in the second half to avoid the upset at La Jolla High. Brad Milhoan scored 25 points to lead the Kearny comeback.
Clairemont 62, University City 45
Reggie Leslie scored 33 points as Clairemont (1-3, 1-14) won its first game of the season. Brian Creek had 15 points for winless University City (0-4, 0-14).
University 60, Mission Bay 59
The Dons (3-1, 11-8) moved into a second place tie with Mission Bay (3-1, 11-5) with the upset win at University High.
METRO CONFERENCE
Southwest 73, Coronado 47
David Reiff scored 30 points and Dean Riggs added 19 to lead the Raiders (3-3, 4-10) to the win at Southwest High. Alvin Bagos also scored 17 for Southwest.
PALOMAR LEAGUE
Torrey Pines 74, Orange Glen 38
Torrey Pines (4-2, 8-9) outscored Orange Glen (2-4, 5-8), 28-16, in the first half en route to the win at Torrey Pines High.
Poway 57, Mount Carmel 38
Dominick Johnson scored 18 points, 11 in the fourth quarter, and had eight rebounds to lead the top-rated Titans (6-0, 16-0) to the win at Poway High. Poway’s All-County center John Colbourne missed his second straight game with an injured ankle.
Vista 61, Fallbrook 45
Ron Howard had a game-high 19 points for Vista (3-3, 8-9). Jeff Boyd scored 12 points and Mike Jones 11 for the Panthers. Fallbrook (1-5, 1-13) was led by Doug Witkop with 12 points.
