Baker Oil Tools Inc., a Houston, Texas, subsidiary of Baker International Corp. of Orange, said Friday it has acquired Oklahoma City-based CMI Inc.’s Torqmaster line of oil well pumping units.
Al Preusch, Baker’s vice president of finance, said Baker will assume approximately $30 million of CMI debt for the acquisition. A new division, to be called Baker CMI, will be established in Oklahoma City to manufacture the Torqmaster pumps, which resemble the so-called grasshopper pumps that dot the landscape in Huntington Beach and other oil producing areas of Orange County.
Baker officials said they would hire all of CMI’s Torqmaster field representatives as well as up to 200 CMI employees who currently are involved in manufacturing the oil well pumps.
