Some steel imports may have hurt U.S. companies.

Indications are that various steel imports from Austria, Sweden, Venezuela, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Norway were subsidized, dumped or both, injuring the U.S. industry, the International Trade Commission said. There were 30 separate cases against the group. The decision will not become final until the Commerce Department has made a final ruling on the dumping or subsidy issue and the ITC has made a final determination on injury. If those rulings go against the countries, special duties would be imposed.
