The Times’ article (Jan. 21) on Republican Assemblyman Pat Nolan of Glendale was very revealing. According to the article, Nolan has “allowed” himself to be referred to as a “highly decorated combat veteran” (which he isn’t), and has misrepresented both the extent of his experience as a lawyer and as a reserve deputy with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
I found it curious, however, that The Times would refer to these misrepresentations on Nolan’s part as a mere “penchant for exaggerating the truth.” I’m left wondering as to under what circumstances it becomes fair to describe a politician with such “penchants” as a pathological liar.
