Widow Seeks Seat of Rep. Long

ALEXANDRIA, La. — Saying she wants to carry on her late husband’s work in Congress, Cathy Long today announced that she will seek election to the 8th District seat left vacant by the death of Gillis Long last month.
“I don’t have to start from scratch,” Mrs. Long said. “I already know the way Congress works.” Qualifying for the March 30 special election began today and ends Friday. Two other Democrats have already announced plans to seek the seat.
