Negotiations Between Owners, Players Scheduled for Feb. 19

CHICAGO — Negotiators representing major league baseball’s owners and players have set Feb. 19 as a target date to put detailed proposals on the table toward a contract for the 1985 season, a spokesman for the owners’ committee said Thursday.
Bob Fishel, executive vice president of the American League, who is acting as labor spokesman during the negotiations, said the two sides met for about 2 1/2 hours to discuss proposals relating to the free agent re-entry draft and benefit-plan portions of a new agreement.
None of the players’ association representatives could be reached at the O’Hare Hilton Hotel, where talks took place Thursday and were set to continue today.
The last contract between the Major League Players Assn. and the Players Relations Committee, which represents management, expired Dec. 31.
