WANTAGH, N.Y. — Carmine (the Snake) Persico, the reputed boss of the Colombo crime family on the FBI’s 10 Most Wanted List, was arrested with three other persons Friday, federal officials said.
Persico, indicted with 10 other alleged leaders of the family last fall, was arrested by FBI agents and New York police, Assistant U.S. Atty. Barbara Jones said.
Arrested with him in this community on New York’s Long Island was Dominic (Donnie Shacks) Montemarano, an alleged member of the Colombo family, Joseph Russo and Frederick DeChristopher, FBI spokesman Nick Colicino said.
Persico and Montemarano were indicted last October on racketeering charges, including extortion and payoffs, mob control of labor unions, embezzlement of union funds, drug trafficking, multimillion-dollar thefts, illegal gambling, loan-sharking and bribery.
All four were to be arraigned today before a U.S. magistrate in U.S District Court, Jones said.
