Soviets to Help Iraq Develop Oil Field

BAGHDAD, Iraq — The Soviet Union will help develop one of Iraq’s major oil fields under an agreement signed here Saturday, a senior Iraqi Oil Ministry official said.
The official said the Soviet Union will provide machinery and technical expertise in raising the production capacity of the field, which he declined to identify.
Iraqi Oil Ministry Undersecretary Issam Chalabi and the Soviet deputy chairman of the State Committee for Economic Relations, Evgeny Osadchuk, signed the accord.
