Torrance Municipal Airport and about 500 other businesses and homes were without electricity Friday night after a power pole was knocked down as the result of a traffic accident.
Torrance police said the accident occurred at Hawthorne Boulevard and Newton Street shortly after 8:30 p.m. There were several reports of transformers blowing out about the same time, police reported.
Southern California Edison Co. crews were working to restore service to an area bordered by Skypark Drive, Pacific Coast Highway, Crenshaw Boulevard and Ocean Avenue.
