Moscow Recalls Approval of Popular Car

MOSCOW — One of the Soviet Union’s most popular cars has lost its official seal of approval because of complaints about poor servicing facilities, a Soviet weekly said Wednesday.
The Zhiguli, the “Soviet Fiat,” was a hit when it first appeared three or four years ago. It won official recognition from the government standards department in 1983.
However, lack of spare parts and inadequate service facilities have cost the Zhiguli its quality rating, the weekly Literary Gazette said Wednesday, disclosing that it has received several thousand letters of complaint from readers.
