Wilson Reelected in Landslide as Oakland’s Mayor

Lionel Wilson, Oakland’s first black mayor, was elected by a landslide to a third four-year term in a primary election Tuesday, thus avoiding a runoff.
Wilson, 70, garnered 32,396 votes or 60% of the ballots cast, with the second-place candidate, Wilson Riles Jr., 36, a city councilman and son of the former state superintendent of schools, receiving 17,578 votes or 32% in a complete unofficial tally, Bay Cities News Service said early today.
Five other candidates in the mayor’s race shared 8% of the votes.
