THREATENED SPRINGSTEEN SUIT DROPPED

DUBLIN — Residents of an Irish village have dropped a threat to take legal action to stop an open-air concert by rock star Bruce Springsteen after receiving pledges on local security.
They had said that they feared a repetition of the violence that had erupted preceding a concert last year on the same site at Slane castle, north of Dublin, given by Bob Dylan.
A spokesman for residents said that they had decided to let the Springsteen concert go ahead after its promoter had given them assurances that there would be no trouble.
Belfast-based promoter Jim Aiken had also agreed to pay $25 a night to elderly residents and has donated $10,000 to local charities.
