Very Different Evils

There has been, and rightly so, praise for the San Ysidro community for wishing to forget its recent tragedy. However, this laudable position has been juxtaposed with the alleged exploitation and perpetuation of the memory of the Holocaust. The kindest statement one can make for those who equate the two evils is that their thinking is warped.
San Ysidro was the mindless act of a deranged human, condoned by no one. The Holocaust was the systematic, official, carefully planned policy of a duly elected government to murder millions of people for no reason other than the government wanted them dead.
If we don’t learn from history, we are doomed to repeat it, is a lesson that obviously still hasn’t been learned. The lesson of the Holocaust should be taught forever so that each new generation should learn it. We can never get tired of hearing the truth.
