Ticking Bomb Found on Campus in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO — A ticking pipe bomb was found early today in a classroom building at San Francisco State University, causing the evacuation of a large area of the campus.
The pipe bomb was removed by the San Francisco police bomb squad and detonated harmlessly. An officer said it would have caused heavy damage if it had gone off. The bomb was found in the social science building shortly after 5 a.m. by an employee.
The university’s major classroom buildings, the library and administration building were cordoned off until a thorough search could be made for other devices.
There was no immediate information on who placed the bomb.
Police were alerted when the device was found ticking. Fire and police units swarmed to the campus and some early classes had to be canceled.
