3 Granddaughters Die, Grandson Saved in Blaze

NEW ORLEANS — A fire struck two wood houses in the Algiers section of the city early Friday, killing three girls ranging in age from 1 to 4, officials said.
The grandfather of the children told firefighters that he rescued a 2 1/2-year-old grandson but that the intense blaze prevented him from returning for the others. The cause of the fire was being investigated.
