San Diego police and FBI agents were seeking the public’s help in identifying two armed men who robbed a La Jolla bank Friday morning, and are believed to be responsible for two other area bank robberies this year.
Bill Robinson, a Police Department spokesman, said that the two men, wearing masks, wigs and gloves, entered the Bank of America branch on Girard Avenue shortly after 10 a.m. One was armed with a sawed-off rifle; the other brandished a .45-caliber semi-automatic handgun.
Robinson said the two ordered customers and employees to lie on the floor, then removed money from cash drawers. They escaped in a powder blue car with a substantial amount of cash, Robinson said. The exact amount was not immediately known.
