Guy McElwaine has been promoted to chairman and chief executive of Columbia Pictures, the motion picture division of New York-based Columbia Pictures Industries. McElwaine had been president of Columbia Pictures since 1982 and chief executive since 1983.
The title previously was held by Richard C. Gallop, president and chief operating officer of Columbia Pictures Industries. Gallop will continue to oversee the motion picture division, as well as Columbia’s television and international operations.
Francis T. Vincent Jr., chairman and chief executive of Columbia Pictures Industries, also announced that McElwaine has been elected to the board of directors of Columbia Pictures Industries. Also elected to the board were Herman Rush, president of the company’s television group, and Patrick M. Williamson, executive vice president of Columbia Pictures Industries and president of Columbia Pictures International Corp.
Columbia Pictures Industries is a subsidiary of Coca-Cola.
