ST. LOUIS — Shortstops Jim Fregosi Jr. and William Jones are among 22 players selected in last week’s summer draft who have signed St. Louis Cardinals contracts, the National League club says.
Fregosi, 21, is the son of a former major league infielder who currently manages Louisville of the American Association, a St. Louis farm club. Jones, 22, hit .429 this past spring for the Citadel.
The two were among 11 players assigned by St. Louis to Johnson City, Tenn., of the Appalachian rookie league. Eleven other players signed by the Cards were assigned to Erie of the Class A New York-Penn League.
