Solstice Day Gets Snowy Welcome in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH — The first day of summer got an icy reception from children who lugged bags of snowballs and a snowman to a science center Friday to celebrate Solstice Day.
More than 1,200 snowballs were brought to the Buhl Science Center in response to an invitation last January to “save those snowballs” for free admission on the longest day of the year, spokeswoman Jo Lee said. “The ‘Snowball Arena’ was set up to entice kids into the science center and show them that learning is fun,” Lee said.
