An 1,800-space satellite parking lot is scheduled to open Wednesday to help alleviate the parking crunch at John Wayne Airport.
The lot is situated on Main Street two blocks west of MacArthur Boulevard, just north of the runway.
The cost of the lot has been estimated at $3.3 million.
Shuttle buses will depart from the lot every 15 minutes from 6 a.m. until 11:30 p.m., said Denis Horn, chief of airport operations and facilities.
The cost of parking at the new lot will be $3 per day, compared with $10 a day for the short-term lot in front of the terminal and $6 a day for the long-term lot, which is situated near the Beechcraft West building.
The lot will also serve as the airport’s primary parking facility when construction on the terminal and runway expansion project gets under way.
