Fire gutted an 18-store mall in Santa Ana, causing between $3 million and $5 million in damage and forcing the evacuation of 200 nearby residents before being brought under control before dawn today.
The fire started on the north side of the Pioneer Town Shopping Center just before midnight Wednesday and raged out of control for about three hours, fire officials said. The blaze also caused a power outage in parts of the community. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries.
