Costly Car Wash Raises $1,000 for Cancer Fight

DOWNEY — More than $1,000 was raised for the American Cancer Society Sunday in what was billed as the world’s most expensive car wash.
Tim Briley, owner of JTF European Automart, where the car wash was held, said he received donations up to $50, but no one contributed the requested $150.
“I really thought more money would be raised,” Briley said. “But we couldn’t get anyone to give the $150.”
However, Briley said about 20 cars were washed and more than 350 people attended the champagne brunch and automobile display.
He said all of the money raised was donated to the Long Beach, Harbor, Southeast Unit of the American Cancer Society.
