WASHINGTON — About 1,500 Iranian emigre supporters of the late Shah of Iran staged a rally and march through Washington today, calling for a return to a monarchy in their country.
The demonstrators were brought from around the country by a pro-monarchy faction of Iranian exiles who oppose the fundamentalist Islamic regime of the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. In Lafayette Park across from the White House, many carried pictures of the shah’s son, Reza Pahlavi II, 24, who claims title to the Peacock Throne from his exile in France.
