WASHINGTON — Health and Human Services Secretary Margaret M. Heckler entered a Washington hospital today to undergo a hysterectomy, the department announced.
The department said Heckler, 54, entered Columbia Hospital for Women and will undergo the surgery, which it called elective, Tuesday morning. Agency spokesman Campbell Gardett said Heckler was acting on the advice of her physician, and said in response to a question that cancer was not involved. He declined further comment.
