Vista residents raised $12,500 for famine victims in Ethiopia at a community garage sale, a spokesman for the weekend event said.
More than 70 families and businesses participated in the “Ethiopia We Care” garage sale, dubbed “Garage Aid” by some participants. The money raised will be channeled to Ethiopia via two relief organizations--World Vision and Sudan Interior Mission.
Five truckloads of leftover items will be donated to local charities.
