LONDON — Peter Sellers and Charlie Chaplin are among five British film personalities whose pictures and signatures will appear on a set of stamps marking British Film Year, the Post Office said Thursday.
The stamps, which go on sale Oct. 8, show each of the five in one of his most famous films, with Chaplin in “City Lights” and Sellers in “The Prisoner of Zenda.”
The series will show actor David Niven in “Around the World in 80 Days,” film maker Alfred Hitchcock in “Rear Window” and actress Vivien Leigh in “Gone With the Wind.”
British Film Year, from March 1985 to May 1986, was launched in a bid to increase cinema attendance, which fell from a peak of 1.63 billion in 1946 to just 53 million in 1984.
