State Ranger Station Dedication Scheduled
- Share via
The recently restored West Fork Ranger Station, California’s first ranger station, will be dedicated in ceremonies at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Chilao Visitor Center at Angeles National Forest.
Built by pioneer forest ranger Louie Newcomb in 1900 at a cost of $70 in government funds, the station was the second of its type in the country. The restored station is furnished with artifacts that illustrate the work and living conditions of an early forest ranger. The restoration work was done by Angeles National Forest employees, who volunteered their time, and by the Big Santa Anita Historical Society.
