Hot Line Set Up for FARMAID Project

A hot line has been established to take donations for FARMAID, the benefit project launched by Willie Nelson and other country and rock stars to help financially troubled U.S. farmers.
A representative of Nelson’s management company said Monday the telephone line (1-800-FARMAID) was put into operation after a weekend announcement that Nelson and such other performers as Neil Young, Waylon Jennings and John Cougar Mellencamp will join in a 12-hour concert for FARMAID on Sept. 22 at the University of Illinois’ Memorial Stadium.
The goal is to raise $40 million through television rights, ticket sales and donations. At least part of the concert will be broadcast live on cable TV and shown later as a network special, according to the representative. Nelson was one of the stars of USA for Africa’s “We Are the World” single. That campaign has raised about $50 million for African famine victims.
