Lucky Stores Posts Record Profit for Quarter, Half

Lucky Stores reported record second-quarter and first-half earnings. The Dublin, Calif., supermarket company posted net income for the quarter ended Aug. 4 of $25.2 million, up 20% from the $20.9 million that it earned in the comparable 1984 quarter. Revenue rose to $2.3 billion, up 5% from $2.23 billion.
Company President John Lillie said earnings for the fiscal first half increased 16% to $49.2 million from last year’s $42.3 million. Revenue totaled $4.61 billion, up from $4.43 billion reported a year earlier.
Lillie said the earnings increase came mainly from Gemco and the company’s specialty stores.
