A Laguna Niguel youth was killed early Wednesday when he and another teen-age driver lost control of their cars on a curve.
Kevin O’Neill, 16, and an unidentified youth, also 16, were both driving west on Paseo de Colinas in Laguna Niguel “at a high rate of speed” when the accident occurred about 12:45 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
As they approached the curve, O’Neill lost control of his 1980 Mazda RX7, struck a curb on the north side of the street and “flipped end over end” onto the side of the road, the CHP said. O’Neill was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the second car, a 1965 Ford Mustang, struck a concrete light pole in the median strip but was uninjured, the CHP said.
An investigation is continuing.
