A typhoon struck China’s southeast coast, collapsing houses, ruining crops and disrupting communications. Officials said Typhoon Nelson with winds up to 100 m.p.h. brought nearly 10 inches of rain to some parts of Fujian province opposite Taiwan, where the storm earlier caused at least four deaths.
