Basie, longest shot in the five-horse field, outran heavily favored Heatherten and Life’s Magic to win the $110,600 Delaware Handicap at Saratoga.
Basie, a 4-year-old filly, won by 1 1/2 lengths over Heatherten, who went off at even money. Life’s Magic, half of a Wayne Lukas-trained entry that went off as the 4-5 favorite, was another 1 1/2 lengths back in third.
Basie covered the 1 miles in 2:02. She paid $20.60 to win.
