City’s AIDS Ordinance

I commend the Times for the brave editorial calling for funds for research on AIDS and for treatment of its victims. It is likely that hundreds of thousands of Americans will fall victim to AIDS before the end of the decade; these unfortunates must be given effective therapy that does not now exist.
As articles in The Times have indicated, health officials calculate that as many as 2 to 3 million Americans may have been infected with AIDS virus. Perhaps 10% of these will manifest AIDS, which is typically fatal. It is obvious that funding for AIDS research is desperately needed, but from what source?
In the past year we have seen musical benefits that collected millions to relieve starvation in Africa. Perhaps groups of concerned performers could stage similar benefits to help end the suffering and death that results from the uncontrolled AIDS virus.
