Enterprise Partners, a new Newport Beach-based venture capital firm, has capitalized its investment fund at $29 million, according to general partners Charles D. Martin and James H. Berglund.
The fund, set up in collaboration with the Mayfield Fund and Hambrect & Quist, already has invested in two Southern California companies. One is Tokos Medical Corp., an Irvine firm that has developed monitoring devices to help prevent premature births. The other is Biomagnetic Technologies Inc., a Sorrento Valley firm developing a system to diagnose brain disorders.
“In addition to the traditional financial assistance, we will contribute to the strategic and managerial success of our companies,” said Berglund.
Institutional investors include Harvard University, Dartmouth College, Citicorp, the World Bank, New York Life, and Pacific Mutual Life Insurance Co. Private investors include 38 individuals. Thirty of those are founders or presidents of companies.
