Forty-eight members of Congress receive annual federal or state pensions of from $4,000 to $60,000 in addition to their salaries, the National Taxpayers Union, a lobby group, said. It called them “double dippers” and said those receiving the highest benefits are 59-year-old Sen. Daniel J. Evans (R-Wash.), whose pension from state service including governor and legislator is $60,527 a year, and 69-year-old Rep. Lindy (Mrs. Hale) Boggs (D-La.), who receives a $47,274 annuity as a congressman’s widow.
