Three Ranked Teams Lose, but Only One Drops Out of The Times’ High School Football Ratings

SAN DIEGO — For the first time this season, there were a few surprises last week that caused some changes in The Times’ Top 10.

No. 3 Lincoln, which had forfeited two games earlier this season but had not lost on the field, was beaten for the first time by Crawford, 23-15. Also, fifth-ranked Orange Glen was knocked off by No. 9 Fallbrook, 34-31. A third Top 10 team, San Pasqual, dropped a 10-8 decision to San Marcos. It was the first time since the opening week of the season that as many as three ranked teams were upset.

There was no shuffling at the top, however, as No. 1 Sweetwater and No. 2 Vista both won. The Red Devils struggled, but beat Bonita Vista, 6-0, and Vista rolled over Carlsbad, 47-7. Granite Hills moved to No. 3 with a 42-0 win over El Cajon.

With all of the changes, there is only one new team in the Top 10, Morse, which beat Point Loma, 29-20, Friday to improve its record to 5-3 and take over first place in the City Eastern League. The No. 10 Tigers were ranked eighth in the preseason but lost three of their first five games.
